Founder and CEO, Melissa Della Porta, was raised on Vancouver Island and along the banks of the Skeena River in Terrace, BC. Melissa's heritage is Mi'kmaq from New Brunswick and she later moved there to complete her degree.
Melissa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from SFU. During her studies, she devoted her weekends to volunteering with a local police service. She later spent time working in some of this country's worst prisons and has seen first hand the systemic racism against Indigenous people that is still so prevalent. After a serious work incident, Melissa was diagnosed with PTSD and began to seek out other avenues of change.
Poetry of the Gods was born out of a love for the connection between fragrance and memory, and the need to fill the gap of Indigenous makers in the beauty industry. We are strong advocates for Indigenous education and women's rights, and continue to engage in opportunities that offer a deeper understanding of culture and tradition.
We hope the positive energy harnessed during the making of our products can be felt in your homes.
